Preparing a binder specification for review

Connect the document set, mechanism and cover in one review brief.

Connect the document set, mechanism and cover in one review brief.

Start with the actual contents

List every document format, divider and pocket that must fit. Include protruding tabs and protective inserts in the review set.

Describe how often pages will change and how the binder will be used, carried and stored. Separate those needs from a preferred cover appearance.

Map the assembly

Provide the desired ring arrangement and a dimensioned drawing if one exists. Identify the punching pattern and mounting position rather than relying on a product photograph.

Keep the cover, spine, closure and interior layout on the same revision. Note where labels, logos and pockets should sit.

Prepare a practical review

Bring the complete proposed contents to the sample review. Record page movement, access and any interference as observations against agreed requirements.

Ask the reviewer to identify the sample and specification version. A category image or a ring diameter alone should not stand in for an approved assembled product.

A concise handover checklist

  • The intended use and required contents.
  • A named drawing, artwork or reference version.
  • Confirmed inputs, preferences and unresolved questions shown separately.
  • A review owner and a record of requested changes.
  • Requested quantity, destination and timing for separate commercial review.

What this guide does not confirm

This editorial checklist does not establish AWG availability, materials, dimensions, MOQ, price, lead time, capacity or certifications. Product-specific facts and media permissions require their own evidence and approval. Review the final brief with the responsible parties before proceeding.
